1.  The National Road: orignally an Indian trail that connected Ohio with the East. 

2.  Steamboats: Robert Fulton built steam powered boats.  This gave boats more speed.

3.  Canals: These were built by people to link bodies of water.  In 1825, the Erie Canal opened, connecting Ohio to the Hudson River. (New York)

4.  Transcontinental Railroad: railroad crossing the continent of North America (USA)
