Functionalism:

Viewed society as an integrated whole.  liked balance.  thinks capitalism flourished because it fit in with their religion at the time

If one part of society is disturbed, everything has to adapt to change

Conflict Theory:

Believed that tension and conflict are inherent to capitalism.  Thinks that people in power created system to be good only for them.  Conflict creates change.

See things from other's point of view.  See how stuff influences each other.

-Middle class people try to foster their kids' talents, by directing what they do at all times.  it gets them good at interacting with professionals.

-working class people let kids be kids and interacts with other kids.  The kids become less comfortable with older professionals

Role theory

We have roles that are socially defined and that have expectations (i.e. doctor/mother/student).  also we have "role" models

"Looking Glass Self"

This says we imagine how others perceive me (living up to expectations) - Interpret the responses - and adjust our behavior accordingly

Reinforcement Theory

All animals (including humans) respond to strong feedback (either positive [praised/accepted] or negative [shunned/teased])
