ORWELL AND HUXLEY

• Orwell believed the government would hide the truth from us and censor us. "Big brother"
• Huxley believed the truth yould be "drowned in a sea of irrelevance" (Sports, celebrities, entertainment- more important than actual news)
• Huxley is more accurate according to Postman

• We have moved from a print- based epistemology to a screen based one.
• Reliance on screens erodes our critical thinking skills
• Therefore, we cannot take part in social discourse

ROAD LESS TRAVELED

• The journey is the meaning of life. We strive for growth and knowledge. The more you grow, the more meaningful your life is
• BAD- Never get a specific answer or a constant to explain reality

• Strives for a constant to explain reality
• Provides a clear and consistant answer for the basis of reality
• BAD- Must leave out parts of reality to make it work.
