Definition
Remove decay and sensible heat. Control water chemistry and activity (SFP, RWST and Refueling Canal). Improve visual clarity.

SFP Cooling Design Basis:
Definition
  • Under normal conditions temperature limit is 147F
  • Under abnormal conditions temperature limit is 180F, with the following assumptions CCW is <95F, CCW Flow > 3000 gpm, SFC 2300 gpm.

Design Basis Heat Load:

  • EOL 2 Pps, 2 HXs, 10% plugged tubes=147F
  • EOL 1Pp, 2 HXs, 10% plugged tubes=  150F
  • Suction is 4 feet below surface of pool
  • Return line discharge 6 feet above the top of the fuel and has a 1/2 inch anti-siphon hole below pool surface
  • Redundant weir gates (preclude loss of water with transfer pool empty)
  • SFP Racks Seismic Class I, Piping Class II
  • Storage Capacity 1632 fuel assemblies
  • Redundant Pps, power from different vital buses
  • SFP system entirely manual, controlled from the field.

Definition

In order of preference:

  1. DM water: SF58 to SFP Pp discharge
  2. PWST: SF44 to Purification Loop
  3. CVCS HUT: SF71 and HUT Recirc Pp to SFP Pp discharge header
  4. RWST: Piped to purification loop via RWP Pp or hosed to pool via portable Pp

Emergency Make Up:

 

Multiquip Portable Diesel Pp. Capacity 111.5 gpm to both pools simultaneously, max design basis 92.3 gpm
