Term
Explain the purpose and function of the RPS.
Definition
Initiate an automatic reactor scram if monitored system variable exceed pre-established limits; Provides for manual initiation of rapid control rod insertion.
Term
Power supplies to RPS
Definition

RPS A: MG set A Y-50 (MCC-111);

RPS B: MG Set B Y-40 (MCC-141);

Alt to either MG Set: Y-60 (MCC-111)

Term
Scram Discharge Volume Rod Block
Definition
38 gal
Term
Scram discharge Volume automatic scram
Definition
54 gal
Term
Relative to Scram Discharge Volume, what is required to reset a scram?
Definition
SDV high water level bypass switch in BYPASS with MODE switch in S/D or REFUEL.
Term
Sequence when MODE switch is taken from RUN to SHUTDOWN
Definition

Full scram to ensure all rods fully inserted in shutdown mode. Contacts are located on RPS subchannels A3 and B3 (manual scram).

After two seconds, the scram signal is automatically bypassed, but requires a manual reset.

Term
Discuss Delayed Scram Reset Interlock
Definition
10 second time delay prevents resetting a scram prior to all rods having completed their scram travel.
Term
Power supplies to reactor vessel low water trip units.
Definition

Analog trip units have dual power supplies.

Channels A and C receive power from RPS bus A (Y50) and Y70.

Channels B and D receive power from RPS bus B (Y40) and Y80.

NOTE: Channels A and B are located in Cable Spreading while C and D are located on 3rd floor EFT.

Term
IRM automatic scrams
Definition
120 out of 125 or IRM INOP (NOTE: bypassed when APRMs are above 3.5 % and/or mode switch in RUN)
Term
IRM inputs to RPS
Definition

A1: IRM 11, 13;

A2: IRM 12, 14;

B1: IRM 15, 17;

B2: IRM 16, 18"

Term
APRM automatic scrams
Definition

APRM INOP, DOWNSCALE or HI HI (based on flow-biased setpoint or 119.5%, whichever is lower)

NOTE: HI hi is bypassed unless mode switch is in RUN

Term
Formula for APRM HI-HI
Definition

0.66W + 65.1 for two loop;

0.66(W-5.4) + 65.1 for single loop;

where W is percent recirc flow required to establish rated total core flow (57.6 Mega poundsmass per hour)

Term
APRM inputs to RPS
Definition

A1: APRM 1, 3A

A2: APRM 2, 3B

B1: APRM 4A, 6

B2: APRM 4B, 5

Term
SRM automatic scrams
Definition

When appropriate shorting links are removed, any one SRM Hi-hi trip will cause a full scram.

Setpoint: 5X105 cps

Term
SRM inputs to RPS
Definition

A1: SRM 21

A2: SRM 22

B1: SRM 23

B2: SRM 24

Term
Reactor High Pressure scram setpoint
Definition
1056 psig
Term
Reactor Vessel Low Water Level scram setpoint
Definition
+9 inches
Term
Primary containment high pressure scram setpoint
Definition
1.84 psig
Term
Main condenser low vacuum scram setpoint
Definition
22.5 inches of Hg Vacuum
Term
Turbine control valve fast closure scram setpoint
Definition

Less than 172.5 psig oil pressure to acceleration relay

(bypassed until first stage pressure reaches 30% of its full power pressure)

Term
Purpose of turbine control valve fast closure scram setpoint
Definition

Prevents insertion of significant amounts of positive reactivity due to a large pressure excursion .

172.5 psig oil pressure

Term
Turbine stop valve closure scram setpoint
Definition
Any three turbine stop valves open less than 90%. NOTE: rod block on any two less than 90% open and alarm for any one less than 90% open
Term
Turbine stop valve inputs to RPS
Definition

A1: SV-1 and SV-2

A2: SV-3 and SV-4

B1: SV-1 and SV-3

B2: SV-2 and SV-4

Term
Main steam line isolation valve closure scram setpoint
Definition
Any three main steam isolation valves less than 90% open.
Term
Main steam line isolation valve inputs to RPS
Definition

A1: AO-2-86A/B and AO-2-80A/B

A2: AO-2-86C/D and AO-2-80C/D

B1: AO-2-86A/C and AO-2-80A/C

B2: AO-2-86B/D and AO-2-80B/D

Term
Turbine stop valve closure and control valve fast closure bypass setpoint
Definition
Bypass in effect until 1st stage pressure is 30% of its rated full power pressure
Term
Main steam isolation valve closure and condenser low vacuum bypass setpoint
Definition

Bypassed until reactor pressure reaches 600 psig.

NOTE: this bypass is dependent on mode switch being in S/D, REFUEL, or START & HOT STANDBY

Term
Neutron Monitoring non-coincident scram trips
Definition

"During initial core loading and subsequent core alterations, it may be desireable… With all (8) shorting links removed, any neutron monitor trip will cause a full scram.

NOTE: APRM DOWNSCALE trip still requires the mode switch to be in RUN."

Term
Requirements to reset scram logic
Definition

Half scram: WHEN CONDITION HAS CLEARED use scram reset logic switch (must go both ways with switch).

Full scram: use scram logic reset switch (must go both ways).

NOTE: in order to clear a full scram, the scram discharge volume bypass switch must be in BYPASS. In order for this to work, the MODE switch must be in SHUTDOWN or REFUEL.

Term
Conditions required for blue scram light on full core display to be ON
Definition
Both scram valves (CV-126 and CV-127) must be open.
