Cards

Term
β1 receptors (Location, Function, Mechanism)
Definition
  • Location: Heart, Salivary glands, Adipose tissue, Kidney.
  • Contraction, Increase Heart Rate, lipolysis, gluconeogenesis, renin secretion.
  • Stimulation of adenylyl cyclase. ↑cAMP
Term
α1 receptors (Location, Function, Mechanism)
Definition
  • Locations: Vascular SM, Sphincters of GI and Bladder. Radial muscle of iris. Splanchnic vessels.
  • Constriction, SM contraction
  • IP3, intracellular ↑[Ca++]
Term
α2 receptors (Locations, Function, Mechanism)
Definition
  • Location: Wall of presynaptic/post ganglionic neuron of GI.
  • Relaxation. Decreases NE release.
  • Inhibition of adenylyl cyclase ↓cAMP
Term
β2 receptors (Locations, Function, Mechanism)
Definition
  • Location: Vascular SM of Skeletal muscle. Wall of GI and Bladder. Bronchioles.
  • Dilation, Smooth muscle relaxation
  • stimulation of adenylyl cyclase ↑cAMP
Term

Nicotinic receptors (Location, Function, Mechanism)

Definition
  • Location: Skeletal muscle. Postganglionic neurons. SNS and PNS Adrenal Medulla.
  • Always activation
  • Opening Na/K channels. Depolarizing.
Term
Muscarinic receptors (location, Function, Mechanism)
Definition
  • Locations: All effector organs of PNS. Sweat glands. Vascular smooth muscle of skeletal muscle.
  • IP3 intracellular ↑[Ca]
Term
What organs are under only sympathetic control?
Definition
  • Skeletal mucle(also Somatic NS)
  • Radial muscle of iris (dilates/opend pupil)
  • Sweat glands
  • Liver, Adipose tissue, Kidney
Term
What organs are under only parasympathetic control?
Definition
  • Lacrimal gland(tear duct)
  • Gastric acid and Pancreatic secretion
  • Endothelium, releases EDRF
Term
Decribe the filling and emptying of the bladder.
Definition

Filling is done by sympathetic:

- β2 relaxes the Detruror muscle to allow stuff in.

- α1 contracts the internal sphincter(Trigone) to stop things from leaving.

-External sphincter(skeletal muscle) is voluntarily contracted.

Emptying is done by the parasympathetic:

- Muscurinic contract the Detruror muscleto stop filling.

-A seperate Muscurinic relaxes the internal sphincter(Trigone) to allow drainage.

-External sphincter voluntarily relaxed.

Term
What stimulates Autonomic activity by stimulating post ganglionic neurons?

Definition
  • DFP (nerve gas)
  • Physostigmine (Eserine)
  • Neostigmine (Prostigmin)
Term
What increases autonomic activity by causing post ganglionic neurons to release norepinepherin?
Definition
  • Ephedrine
  • Amphetamine
  • Cocaine
Term
What slows autonomic activity by interfering with norepinepherin storage at postganglionic neurons?
Definition
Reserpine
