Basophilic nuclear remnants (DNA). During maturation RBCs normally expel their nuclei, but in some cases a small portion of DNA remains.
Stain with: Geimsa, wright

Definition

  • Irregular, small blue-purple granule aggregates in RBCs
  • The granules are usually located at the periphery of the RBC
  • Stain with wright's/geimsa
