Definition
- 4-sided flat shape with straight sides that has a pair of opposite sides parallel.
(Called a trapezium in the UK. Both US and UK definitions of trapezium and trapezoid are swapped over.)
-The sides that are parallel are called "bases". The other sides are "legs" (which may or may not be parallel)
Term

Kite

Definition
- A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides that:
* has two pairs of sides.
* each pair is adjacent sides (they meet) that are equal in length.
- Also, the angles are equal where the pairs meet.
- Diagonals (dashed lines) meet at a right angle, and one of the diagonal bisects (cuts equally in half) the other.
Term

Parallellogram

Definition
- A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides where opposite sides are parallel.
Also:
* opposite sides are equal in length, and
* opposite angles are equal (angles "a" are the same, and angles "b" are the same)
- NOTE: Squares, Rectangles and Rhombuses are all Parallelograms!
Term

Rhombus

Definition
- A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides where all sides have equal length.
- Also opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are equal.
- It is a type of parallelogram.
Term

Rectangle

Definition

-A 4-sided flat shape with straight sides where all interior angles are right angles (90°).
- Also opposite sides are parallel and of equal length.
- Example: A square is a special type of rectangle.

Term

Square
