ACETYSALICYLIC ACID

Definition

Assists by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins and thromboxane in the circulating platelets.

 

The antithrombotic action forms the basis of preventing platelets from aggregating to exposed collagen fibres at sites of vascular injury.

Definition

Converted to Salicyclic acid in many tissues but primarily in the GI mucosa and liver and

excreted by the kidneys.

Suspected AMI or myocardial ischaemia.

  • KSAR to aspirin or NSAIDS
  • Bleeding Disorders
  • Current GI Bleeding or peptic ulcer
  • Children under 12 years

  • Possible Aortic Aneurysm or other condition requiring surgery
  • Pregnancy
  • Hx of peptic ulcers or GI bleeding
  • Concomitant anti-coagulant therapy (not clopidogrel)

Bi-lateral fractures.
Caution must be taken for knee dislocations and multiple fractures of the one leg.
