 an expression used to indicate logarithms to the base 10. Further, when common logarithms are being written, it is spermissible to omit the 10 as the base. ex. 1og(3) is the same as log10(3)

Definition
 a format for rewritting very large or very small numbers in order to make computation with them much easier.  It consists fo a decimal number, greater than or equal to one and less than ten, multiplied by some power of ten, as in 4.72 x 10-1.  This notation is especially useful in finding common logarithms using a logarithm table

 the name given to the whole number part of a logarithm.  It shows the caharacter of the original number in terms of its size, 10, 100, 1000 and so on

 the name given to the fractional part of a logarithm.  It comes from Latin, and it means added to or more.  Thiss part tells us that the original number iss more than just a who number of 10, 100, or 1000.  It gives us the logarithm of the actual sig digits
