Term
Two-thirds of the world's population currently lives on what CONTINENT?
Definition
Asia
Term
What are the 3 most populous countries in the world?
Definition
China, India and the USA (in that order)
Term
Out of all the world's nations, which one currently produces the MOST: red meat, wheat, rice, nitrogen fertilizer, concrete, steel, solar wafers, gold — and carbon dioxide emissions?
Definition
China
Term
True or False:
More than 300 million children in China are currently studying English.
Definition
True
Term
What is Carrying Capacity (K)
Definition
The maximum population of a given species that an ecosystem can support without being degraded in the long run.
The carrying capacity can be exceeded, but not without harming the system’s ability to support that species (and possibly others).
“K” can change: For example, likely to be lower in dry years for many species
Term
What is a Density DE-pendent Population?
Definition
Starvation & disease often limit such populations
The greater the population, the greater the effect
This limit is the Carrying Capacity.
Term
Draw the Sigmoid (or S-curve). Label the X and Y axes and indicate where K occurs.

Term
True or False: The global human population is growing at an ever-increasing rate.
Definition
False. The RATE of growth of the world's human population is actually decreasing, even though the total population is still increasing.
Term
Draw a sigmoid population curve and indicate two places on the curve where the growth rate is zero. Indicate the one place on the curve where the growth rate is the highest.
