Palpable vs. Nonpalpable Purpura
Definition
Purpura caused by vasculitis tends to be accompanied by palpable infiltration (Palpable Purpura) whereas purpura caused by other factors does not have infiltration and is therefore Nonpalpable Purpura.

Note: Purpura caused by mild vasculitis may not be palpable

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (Anaphylactoid Purpura)
Definition
  • Specific type of cutaneous small-vessel vasculitis
  • Caused by IgA immune complex deposition on the vascular walls
  • A Type III allergy
  • It is a leukoclastic vasculitis with scattered nuclear fragments
  • S/Sx include Palpable Purpura in dependent areas (Legs/Buttocks), Arthritis, Abdominal pain, Renal symptoms, Digestive symptoms
  • Tx: Bed rest and Systemic steroids
  • Prognosis:Resolves in several weeks; May recur

Definition
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Hyperphosphatemia (>8mg/dL)
  • Hyperuricemia (>15mg/dL)
  • Hyperuricosemia
  • HYPOcalcemia

Most common with poorly differentiated lymphomas, such as Burkitt's, and leukemias, such as ALL and AML

 

Can lead to Acute Uric Acid Nephropathy and Acute Renal Failure
