|
Definition
| Inflammation is the second line of defense (after skin). It can be caused by infection, mechanical damage, ischemia, nutrient deprivation, temperature extremes and radiation. The macroscopic signs of inflammation include pain, swelling, heat, loss of function, and redness. The major limitation of the inflammation response is the vascularization requirement. A vascular response occurs rapidly increasing permeability and accumulating fluids. |
