Term
What are the 4 types of SCBA cylinders and which does OFD use?
Definition
aluminum, carbon, steel, fiberglass

OFD uses tanks 90% carbon, 10% aluminum
Term
What type of test do the cylinders go through, how often, and it's life duration?
Definition
hydrostatic test every 5 yrs with a life span of 15 yrs. then it is out of service
Term
How much PSI are the OFD bottles and what are the duration of the bottles breathing at a resting state?
Definition
4500psi, 30 min bottles
Term
Where is the burst disk valve and what is it's purpose?
Definition
located at the neck of the cylinder. the valve goes off when the bottle is over pressurized at 1 1/2 times it's max. fill capacity
Term
Explain the alarm system on the PASS device.
Definition
if PASS reamins motionless for 18 sec. PASS will go into prealarm and can be shut off by movement, after 30 sec of motionless activity PASS will go into full alarm and can only be shut off by manually pressing alarm
Term
How many pressure reducers are in the SCBA pack and what do they reduce the air pressure to?
Definition
the pack has two reducers
first stage reducer, reduces air from 4500 psi to 120 psi
2nd stage reducer, reducers air to 14.7 psi going into the mask
Term
When will the audio school bell alarm go off on the SCBA?
Definition
when the air psi of the bottle is at or below 1/4 of max fill capacity.
Term
What must be checked with the collar net assembly to the cylinder and why?
Definition
must make sure that collar net is threaded correctly & snug to cylinder, if not correct air will leak from that point and air will blow off o-ring
Term
Inspection of SCBA pack consist of?
Definition
*check bottle for scratches, gouges
*check if collar net loose or not
*check clasps on regulator
*check for leaks when pack is activated, if it leaks tighten bypass *make sure straps on pack are fully extended
*activate pack and make sure psi from bottle and PASS dont differ more than 5% psi
Term
quick fill connection
Definition
aka RIC (rapid intervention connection)
Used when you or your partner in an IDLH is or has run out of air.
a high pressure hose is carried in a pouch on the SCBA pack. this hose has 2 female ends that connects one female end to a male end in the lower back of the pack, the other end to a second pack, when connected the hose will equalize the pressure between both packs. Will equalize pressure in 27 sec.
Term
How can you tell the difference between high & low pressure hose
Definition
high pressure hose are coated with braided material and is more stiff.

low pressure hose is smooth and flexible
Term
What are the components of the OFD SCBA pack?
Definition
*back pack
*cylinder
*mask/face piece
*PASS device
*regulator
Term
mask rule
Definition
requires SCBA to be worn during ops of IDLH
Term
Carbon Manoxide (CO)
Definition
colorless, odorless gas thats deadly. attaches to hemoglobin 218 x's easier/faster than oxygen, creates hypoxia.
Term
3 ways to don an SCBA
Definition
*coat method
*over the head method
*from the seat method
Term
What type of pressure is used on the OFD SCBA?
Definition
+pressure that is required by law
Term
where is most of the weight of an SCBA designed to go when donned?
Definition
weight is designed to be primarily in the hips.
Term
maintence on SCBA pack
Definition
like almost all PPE in the fire service, mild soap and water
