Abruptio Placenta 
Definition

Separation of the placenta from the uterine wall. usually occurs >20 weeks gestation. 

S/S: painful 3rd trimester bleeding (dark red), hypovolemic shock, hypotension, tachycardia, fetal distress, ↓ FHT, ↑fundal height, pale skin, diaphoresis. 

Treatment: IV, O2, rapid transport, make sure to gather pertinent information such as how many pads have they saturated in the last hour and has she passed any clots.

Placenta Previa 
Definition

Placenta covers cervical os, can occur during 2nd and 3rd trimester. 

S/S: Plainless bright red vaginal bleeding, possible hypotension, tachycardia. 

Treatment: O2, IV, OB consult; if bleeding is heavy- rapid transport.

Preeclampsia/PIH
Definition

pregnancy-induced hypertension.

S/S: HTN, H/A, proteinuria, edema of hands feet face and sacrum, weight gain, ↓ urine output, visual disturbances, possible ↑ liver enzymes, ↑ neurologic reflexes, ↑ chance of seizures, ↓ FHT.

Treatment: Transport quietly and gently, vitals, IV; treat HTN with Labetalol
