B - are all of the components of a person without resorting to the idea of self. This follows the idea that the self consists of sequences of passing moments or of human becomings
1. form – material aspect of thing or person. Includes body and 6 sense organs
2. sensations – psychological process, resulting from contact of form with form there are 3 kinds, pleasant, unpleasant and neutral
3. perception – sensations that are produced lead to recognition of objects. 6 types of mental discrimination resulting from the six senses
4. mental formations – includes our predisposing, impulses, attitudes, and tendencies that make up the unique character of our own personality. Karma is included in this
5. consciousness – moments of awareness. It is dependant upon the condition in which it arises, one’s consciousness is deeply conditioned my mental formations

B – suffering or dissatisfactory, anything that displeases us. There are 3 types, ordinary suffering, suffering produced by change, suffering as conditioned states

B - is considered to be the middle way, has 8 practices that need to be followed simultaneously
1. right speech – abstain from useless speech, can use silence
2. right action – moral honorable peaceful in conduct toward oneself and others
3. right livelihood – make a living that doesn’t harm anybody/thing
4. right effort – having good thoughts in one’s mind
5. right mindfulness – meditative practice in which one aspires to be diligently aware of one’s body, feelings, mind and thoughts
6. right consciousness – calming the mind and concentrating it on a single part
7. right thought – selfless detachment or loving thoughts
8. right understanding – understanding things as they really are and understanding the 4 noble truths

B – lived a sheltered childhood as a preist, renounced life when he saw suffering, realized the middle way of moderation was the best way after experiencing a life of extreme poverty as a monk. He experienced Nirvana for 7 days and decided to teach others about his experience.

P – three part soul which are always in conflict with each other
1. reason – this must be like the charioteer to the others, decisions must be made with reason, not based on anything else
2. sprit – self esteem, how you see yourself and how you see others viewing you. This is also honor and passion
3. appetite – physical things, desires, wants, etc.

P – chained in a dark place these people thought that the shadows were reality, and for them the shadows were. This only became a problem when one escaped and saw the real world, the others wouldn’t believe him. Plato believed that our life on earth is sheltered like the people who live in the cave and only see the shadows
