Anticipation

  • invalid results- movement initiated by anticipation rather than a warning or stimulous.

How to Prevent anticipation??

Prevention...

  • Catch trial- Present a warning but give no stimulous

  • Vary Foreperiod- Changing the time between warning and stimulous

  • Minimum RT- A set period the participent has to react in. E.g athletes ave to react in 100m/s to the start gun other wise they are disqualified.

Definition

Reaction time in sport!

  • Loud accousticc stimulus can 'startle' reaction and can shortern reaction time.
  • IAAF have 100ms reaction time before diqualification
  • Startle reaction time 55-65ms

Simple Reaction Time VS Choice Reaction Time

Definition
  • Simulus identification stage in choice RT not simple RT
  • Select the correct response needed in choice RT.
  • In choice RT no pre-programming to stimulate like in simple RT.
  • Broarder attention span in choice RT than simple RT as more information present to pay attention to.
Term

Donders ABC

  • A, SIMPLE RT E.g race start.
  • B, CHOICE RT E.g defender approaches decision to pass or take them on.
  • C, Go, No Go E.g tennis serve, In serve....go; ou serve....no go!
