Term
1. Exposition
Definition
This is the beginning of any story that provides the setting, main characters, situations/context, and any necessary background. Essential for the rest of the story and is considered the foundation of the plot.
Term
2. Rising Action
Definition
In this part, think of climbing a hill where tension builds, and the conflict or situation is introduced—introduction of obstacles and high-stakes situations for the characters that lead to the climax.
Term
3. Climax
Definition
This is the highest point of the mountain, known as the turning point. When all of the tension from the story reaches its peak, and all problems are directly confronted. This doesn't necessarily mean the exact middle of the story.
Term

This part takes place right after the climax. Think of it as if you are coming down from the mountain, where the consequences of the obstacles come into play, leading towards the ending.
Term
5. Resolution
Definition
When the story comes to an end, all of the characters go their own way, providing closure to all plotlines.
