colonialism
Definition
Occupation of a territory by a foreign power. It is always a higher power with advanced technology; the practice of domination, usually involving one nation or peole subjecting another
Settler colonialism is when foreign family units move into a region to reproduce, thereby leading to the depopulation of the previous inhabitants.
Exploitative colonialism is like imperialism. The higher power uses advanced technology to acauire resourses, kill people, etc.
Jan Pettman talks about colonialism in her piece, "Women, colonialism, and Racism". She says that it began with the "discoveries" made by Columbus and has been marked by political control, economic exploitation and cultural domination, and resistance.

Definition
Ecological or environmental feminism. Ecofeminism promotes practices fot sustaining earths natural resources.
Vandana Shiva claimed that therre are significant connections between the domination of women and nature.

Empire as a way of life
Definition
Empire as a way of life is involved with the history of power. Empire as a way of life creates impediments for others, which is how imperialism functions.
For example, we are enjoying the benefits of empire as we are living in Syracuse, however we are often ignorant to the fact that there are Native American reservations surrounding us.

Definition
The belief that your specific ethnicity, color, race, religion is superior, centralizing yours (race, etc.) and expecting all others to revolve around it.
In Fracuring Binarisms, Chilla Bulbeck uses is as another word for racial prejudice, when talking about how it is regularly found in most communities

heteropatriarchy
Definition
Andrea Smith talks about heteropatriarchy in her reading. It represents a consistant male dominance throughout life. Males hold the power and exclude women from it.
Females produce heteropatriarchy by not questioning or making actions of opposition. Homosexuals are not included in the gender binary of men and women.

Definition
Orientalism is the way we construct others. Edward Said talked about how MIddle Easteners are constructed negatively. They are often rendered negatively to make yourself feel better. Jason, the director of the invisible children film, constructed the people shown in the film.

Definition
System of male dominance. Patriarchy is universal. It is a form of power. Gersa Lerner talks about how it represents mal dominance and power, how women are inferior in the household, alos that the patriarch is seen as the protector. She says that it was historically created by men and women

Direct or indirect violence having negative impacts on people. Paul Farmer talks about how social, political, and economic forces have structured risk of various harms.

Definition
Represents the fact that two thirds of the world is poor and one third of the world is rich. Chanda Mohanty talks about how we should use the term one third world and two thirds world instead of first and third world, to focus on the quality of life when distinguishing between minorities and majorities
