What is the purpose of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship Program (NROTC)?
Definition

To educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officers in the unrestrictedline corps of the Regular Navy and Marine Corps

1.      What are the eligibility requirements for the NROTC?

Definition

Must be a United States citizen

17 years old by September  1st of the first year of college and no more than 23 years of age on June 30th of that year and must not reach their 27th birthday by June 30th of the year which graduation and commissioning is anticipated

High School graduate or equivalency certificate by August 1st of the same year entrance into the NROTC   4-year Scholarship Program is anticipated

Physically qualified in accordance with the Navy standards

Have no moral obligations or personal convictions that will prevent conscientious bearing of arms, and supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic

Apply for and gain admission to an NROTC college or colleges (before scholarship can be awarded)

Achieve finalist College Board qualifying scores

Men: Navy: 62 – 78 inches; Marines: 66 – 78 inches

Women: Navy and Marines: 60 – 78 inches

Proportionate to height and with no waivers for overweight or obese candidates

Definition

The 4 year NROTC Scholarship Program:

              Tuition

              Cost for books: $330 per semester or $200 per quarter

              Fees of an instructional nature

              Tax free subsistence allowance of $250 per academic month for the freshman year (increases to $300                                      for sophomores, $350 for juniors, and $400 for seniors)

              Midshipmen also receive E-5 pay during summer training periods

              Uniforms

The 2 year NROTC Scholarship Program:

              Tuition

              Cost for textbooks     

              Fees of an instructional nature

              Tax free subsistence allowance of $200 per month for a maximum of 20 academic months
