Term
Idler Pulleys
Definition
Non load bearing pulleys used to prevent lift lines from sagging on long runs.
Term
Lanyard
Definition
Attaches the person to the fall arrest system, runs from the harness to the life lines. Also acts as a shock absorber.
Term
Lift Line
Definition
Ropes that are attached to the load on stage then run through the head block and attach to the counterweight.
Term
Loading Bridge
Definition
Platform near the top of the fly system where arbors are loaded and unloaded with stage weight.
Term
Lock Rail
Definition
Also known as the fly rail; a metal rail with rope locks for each of the line sets.
Term
Loft Block
Definition
The pulley directly over the load onstage, guides the lift line.
Term
Mule Block
Definition
A pulley used to change the direction of the lift lines in the horizontal plane, used when it is not possible to run the lift lines straight to the head block.
Term
Node
Definition
Truss weld joints.

A moveable loft block.
Term
Sunday
Definition
A loop of steel cable (wire rope) that is attached to the lift lines with a Prusik knot so weight can be added to the system.
Term
Tension Block
Definition
A pulley found under the fly rail, it can float to reduce strain on shrinking ropes and allow slack for a safety twist.
Term
Trim Chain
Definition
A method of attaching lift lines to a batten that makes leveling the pipe easier.
