Term

1. From what does the belief that we do not have the power to heal arise?

Definition

The mistaken idea that our power or the intellect does the healing.

False belief we have the power to heal, the power comes from the Divine

Term
What is the Consciousness that Heals?
Definition

Consciousness that heals is the recognition of and the faith in the Principle and the conviction that "IT" will always respond. And knowing IT can only respond according to our mental attitudes.

The Consciousness that Heals is the consciousness that abides in an awareness of Truth. The Consciousness that Heals is the consciousness that lives in the Presence. It is the consciousness that knows, in truth, that there is nothing to be healed—there is only a greater Truth to be revealed. The Consciousness that Heals is the consciousness that knows that the healing power, the ONLY healing power, is the free flow of Spirit through us. It is our elevated consciousness, our knowing of Truth, that provides the channel for

healing. This is the consciousness that heals.

Term

On what does the possibility of spiritual mind healing rest?

Definition
Spiritual Mind healing rests entirely on the theory we are surrounded by a Universal Mind, which reacts to our thought and always according to Law.
Term

What is the personal responsibility of the Practitioner in healing?

Definition
There is no personal responsibility of the Practitioner in healing. The Practitioner directs the Power and lets it work.
Term

What is the distinction between the process in healing and the process

of healing?

Definition

There is no process of healing.  The process we may go through to arrive at a realization of Truth is the process in healing.  Healing is a revealing of an idea which is already perfect through the thought of the Practitioner to the thought of the client.

We may go through a process to arrive at a realization of Truth. That is the process

in healing. Once we realize Truth, however, the healing is instantaneous.

Term

What does Ernest Holmes mean when he says, “Our word has the exact

amount of power that we put into it?”

Definition
The power comes from our belief.  Our words have the same amount of power through absolute conviction and faith, not power through effort or strain
Term

How do we develop the capacity to consciously use the Law?

Definition

Practice and by willingness to learn and utilize whatever we know so far as we have gone.

Term

Why is it not necessary to struggle with conditions?

Definition
We do not have to overcome any condition because conditions flow from within, and not from without in. Practitioners deal with causes.
Term

According to Deepak Chopra, what is the ideal relationship between

movement and stillness? How does Ernest Holmes express this same concept?

Definition

The combination of movement and stillness enables you to unleash your creativity in all directions - wherever the power of your attention takes you.

(The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, p. 21.3)

Goddess can do for us only as we will allow Her to do through us. Treat and move your feet

Term

Name five spiritual principles that can apply when doing spiritual guidance

and treatment with clients with relationship challenges.

Definition

All of life is the out picturing of consciousness

We are totally responsible for our own experience of life

It is done unto us as we believe

Choice is our eternal birthright

We can only change our own consciousness

As we give love we attract love

A Law manifests the mental equivalent we hold in mind

Opposing thoughts cancel each other in the Law

Goddess is my Source

All that Goddess is I AM

Term

Explain these two statements: All life is the out-picturing of consciousness. All life is relationship. Are they related?

Definition

All life is the out picturing of consciousness - what is created in my life comes from the state of my consciousness.  The law creates based off of our thoughts which come from our consciousness

All life is relationship - All life stems from relationship - the relationship with the self, with the divine, with others around us, with life

Term

Why can we not treat “the other person” when one partner reports conflict

within a relationship?

Definition
We can only assist in changing another’s consciousness when they are open to it.  Each person is responsible for their own life.  We can only treat for the one seeking the change
Term

Relationships provide a rich “Spiritual Practice Arena.” Name three things we can practice through relationships.

Definition

Change a situation by changing our thoughts

To receive love one must give love

Forgiveness

We are expressions of divine and so are those  we are in relationship with

Term

What is the solution when we find ourselves confronted by the problem of

not knowing what to do?

Definition
Prayer, get quiet and listen, then trust
Term

What does Butterworth say will be the consequence of "earning our wings at work every day?

Definition

(1) your consciousness will bring about a change in the job, making it right for you and you for the company, or (2) another job will open up for you where a transfer will be effected in a way that is beneficial to all concerned.

Term

What does Holmes mean when he says, "Words and affirmations ... are not Creative?"

Definition

Words and affirmations simply give shape to thought; they are not creative.  Feeling is creative and the more feeling that is put into the word the greater power it will have over conditions

Term

Holmes seems to present a dead end when he says, "We really affirm only

that which we know to be true; we know that to be true which we have

experienced within ourselves." What is the solution?

Definition
Bigger idea, bigger mold. Mentally imagine a more expansive idea, then embody that expansion
Term

Define Race Thought in your own words. Give 25 examples of how you

regularly (if not daily) encounter Race Thought in your life.

Definition
Suggestion Human beliefs operating through the mentality of the individual. The tendency to reproduce what the race has thought and experienced. This race-suggestion is a prolific source of disease. These accumulated subjective tendencies of the human race are operative through any person who is receptive to them.
Term

What is the literal meaning of “affluence” according to Butterworth.

Definition

Its literal meaning is ‘an abundant flow,’ and not things at all. When we are consciously centered in the universal flow, we experience inner direction and the unfoldment of creative activity. Things come too, but prosperity is not just having things. It is the consciousness that attracts things

Term

What does Butterworth mean when he says,

The Universe owes you support

Definition
Being a creative expresssion of the Universe, you are entitled to the support of Goddess-substance in everything to which you apply yourself
Term

Butterworth gives several definitions of faith. From these and other studies

you have done, write your personal definition of faith.

Definition
Faith can be conscious, or unconscious.  Faith is what I make it to be.  I can have faith in unworthiness, or I can have faith in my worthiness.  Faith is a feeling within me. Faith is a belief in something, an idea, complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
Term

What is the relationship between gratitude and the experience of abundance in one’s life?

Definition
The more I am grateful, the more things I will have to be grateful for.
Term

1. What are some of the warning signs that someone may be at risk of suicide?

Definition

Talking about hurting or killing oneself

• Talking about feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, guilt, sadness, or having no reason to live

• Saying things like, “everyone will be better off without me” or “all of my

• Giving away possessions: “I won’t be needing these things anymore”

• Seeking information or the means to kill or harm oneself

• Unusual lack of interest in appearance

• Extreme mood swings, recklessness, impulsivity

• Increased use of drugs and/or alcohol

• Withdrawal from family, friends, school, life

Term

. What might you talk about or ask to determine whether a client is thinking

about killing himself or herself?

Definition

Talk with the person and show you care. Listen without judging, regardless of your personal beliefs about suicide.

Directly ask the person, “Are you thinking of ending your life?” “Are you considering killing yourself?” or “Are you thinking about suicide?”

Find out all you can about why they want to die and why they might want to live.

If the person has a plan and access to lethal means, do not leave him or her alone.

Term

What resources are available for use with a client at risk of suicide?

Definition

If you are not comfortable doing a suicide intervention, contact your

minister, a local mental health professional, a local hospital emergency

department, or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-

TALK (8255). Calls to the Lifeline are routed 24 hours a day to the

crisis center closest to the caller where the staff is trained to work with

people who are suicidal. Provide any relevant information you may

have about the person to those who are managing the crisis.

Term

Are there any ways that suicide survivor grief may be different from grief after other deaths? If so, what might they be?

Definition
Yes, They may have survivors guilt, or wonder why they were not able to help to did not see ‘the signs’.  They may be angry at the person.  Survivor may feel more blame, guilt, shame.
Term

What Spiritual Principles relate to suicide issues?

Definition

Divine Presence is always for us

There is no place where Goddess is not

Continuity of the soul

Life is forever seeking greater expression

Term

Is it the Practitioner’s job to take away the pain of grief? Explain your answer

Definition
No.  It is the practitioners job to open to spirit and allow it to flow through.  Grief is a process, pain is meant to be felt, moved through, and let go.
Term

Explain what Alan Wolfelt meant by companioning. Why is it important?

Definition

Companioning is a way of being with someone.  It is opening to the experience the person is going through, to listen, to feel.  It is not trying to provide answers or to “drag”  a person out of their grief.  It is allowing that person to grieve, to feel and to move through it as they are called to move through it.

Companioning is the art of bringing comfort to another by becoming familiar with her story (experiences and needs). To companion the grieving person, therefore, is to break bread literally or figuratively, as well as listen to the story of the other.  It is a sharing in a deep and profound way.

Term

What are some of the gifts of grief and mourning?

Definition
  • the gift of compassion, the ability to feel and imagine someone else’s pain. It can break our hearts wide open, expanding them and allowing love to flow out through our forced Vulnerability.

  •  Loss and grief can be a call to action

  • transform pain into a deeper appreciation of life.

  • reveal previously unrecognized strength and creativity.

  • Deep grief leads one to question God and the meaning of life. It opens the way to live with more spontaneity and authenticity and to experience the power of Spiritual Principles in action.

Term

The patient was healed; the patient died.” Is this an incongruous statement?

Definition
No.  The healing is the truth to be revealed.  A person has transitioned to another form of eternal life.
Term

What does it mean to be non-resistant to life? What are the benefits?

Definition

To know that all life is One; that the divine is expressing through all living beings for the greater good of all; that evolution is, and we are all a part of it; and that mistakes and errors cannot exist in an orderly universe. If we find ourselves in an undesirable situation, it simply means we have something to learn, and we confidently open ourselves to what that is. When we resist we

multiply our challenges; when we accept life as it unfolds we make life easier, and

it automatically becomes much richer.

Term

How do emotions affect our growth and evolution?

Definition
Emotions can be used as guideposts, they can point us to false beliefs that need to be released, and help guide us to a greater awareness of truth.
Term

Are “positive” and “negative” emotions good and bad?

Definition
Negative emotions can be”good” and “bad”  Any emotion can be guideposts leading us to a false belief, what needs to be revealed, where growth is needed.  Repressed emotions, or uncontrolled emotions, can cause chaos and illness.  Positive, or emotions aligned with Spirit, can motivate us to reach for higher heights of spiritual awareness.
Term

Why is it that to change a pattern of anger, or other limiting emotion, we

cannot accomplish it by simply treating to eliminate the pattern?

Definition
The focus needs to be on the belief behind the limiting emotion, and pivot from that false belief to Truth and Principal
Term

What spiritual principle would you use when working with a client who is

substance addicted?

Definition
The Divine Presence is your source, and you are not separate from this Divine Source, it is within you.  You are Loved, You are Love. You are Divine, You are an out picture of the Divine, you are a manifestation of Divine Perfection.
Term

Does God heal? If yes, how? If no, why not?

Definition

There is no healing, only Truth to be revealed

The spiritual being needs no healing, health is an omnipresent reality, and when the obstructions that hinder healing are removed, it will be found that health was there all the time.

Term

Explain the positive side of pain.

Definition

Accepting the positive side of disease and pain

enables the client to be more open to hear the truth. This is another perspective of

the principle: Healing is the revealing of the Truth within.

Term

What does Ernest Holmes mean when he writes: “In treating, go beyond the

disease and supply a spiritual consciousness?”

Definition
We do not treat the disease. Look past the disease to the Spiritual Truth and sense the Divine Presence in and through the client at all times.
Term

What is the role of illness in the life of humanity?

Definition
To move us toward expansion, a signal to be reminded of Truth.  To let us know that there is false belief we are holding
Term

What is the Practitioner’s role in healing?

Definition
To reveal Truth, to recognize that no person is in need of healing, that each person is a perfect divine being. The practitioner is not responsible for healing
Term

Where does Butterworth say we need to begin if we wish to reverse financial Adversity?

Definition

"You begin by taking responsibility for your own life.... Admit to yourself that your present experience, even the condition of your bank account, reflects your present level of awareness.

You are not the victim of circumstances. Consciousness creates circumstances, or at least sets the climate in which they happen."

Spiritual Economics, Chapter 7, "How to Reverse Financial Adversity"

But remember the "rich mentality" will not come because of your financial involvements. It must come first out of your steady effort to know God as your supply."

Consciousness creates circumstances, you are not a victim of circumstances

Term

How, according to Butterworth, do we acquire the “rich mentality?”

.

Definition
But remember the "rich mentality" will not come because of your financial involvements. It must come first out of your steady effort to know God as your supply
Term

What is the “money enigma” to which Butterworth refers?

Definition

It is "...the confused dualism about money in the religions of the Western world." It is somehow seeing money as being evil when it pervades every aspect of our lives.

We live in a world of money and where money is necessary, most often nothing else will serve. "How can money be evil when no one, not even men of God, can do without it?"

Term

What is the relationship between forgiveness and prosperity, according to

Edwene Gaines?

Definition
It lets us make room for the good we desire. It also lets us go as far as we can on this Spiritual Journey and receive all the universe has to offer."
