WHAT IS THE SACLE IN CM TO KM?

SHOW ALL YOUR CALCULATIONS.

Definition

every cm measured on the map would be 50,000 actual cm on the ground.

in a Km are 100,000 cm.

thus multiple the meaurement in cm on the map by 50,000 and then divide the answer by 100,000 to = Km

Term

number 1 is a bridge.

It measures 1.4 cm from shoreline to shoreline.

How long is that in kilometers?

Definition

1.4 times 50,000 = 70,000

divided by 100,000 = 0.7 km

Term

The map measures 17 cm by 17 cm

Calculate its area in sq km

show all your calculations

Definition

17 cm by 50,000 = 850,000

divided by 100,000 = 8.5 km

8.5 times 8.5 = 72.25 sq km.

However two rivers rum through it. If one emagines dividing the whole mape into 16 smaller squares (4 by 4).

Each of those squares would be 4.25 cm times 50,000 =212,500 divided by 100,000 = 2.125 km times itself would = 4.516 sq km in each smaller square.

The river would subtract 1 and 2/3s or 4.516 *1.666 = 7.524 sq km. Thus the total sq km of land would be 72.25-7.524 = 64.726 sq km

Term

What percentage is forested?

Definition

Using the same 16 sq grid division of the map (4 by 4) and having worked out the land area itself was  64.726 sq km

subtracting the red street areas city and the white area leaves about 7 and 3/4 of the 1/16 size squares green for forest. Having calculated earlier each of those square = 2.125 sg km time 7.75 of them = 16.468 forested dived by 64.726 total land = about 25.4% forested

Term
