An outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. A big portion of this movie was irony. Leading from the last flash card, the irony of the carjacking after the discussion of inequality from the two black men leaving the restaurant.

The police officer played by Matt Damon exhibits racism, throughout the entire movie. A specific example is pulling the couple over and the time he asks for assistance for his father.

A simplified and standardized conception or image invested with special meaning and held in common by members of a group. The Hispanic locksmith is a gang member because of his hairstyle and way of dress.

A distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid. The entire movie has an underlying message of fear-whether justified or not.

Having internal connections between the parts or elements. The scene at the end of the movie where the shooting takes place with all the intertwined characters shows how we are all interconnected.

To release. Fear and prejudice hold the characters back, they need to "let go" to heal.

Unpleasant feeling or sensation. The woman who was felt up by the police officer is carrying a great deal of pain, along with all the other characters in the movie.

To feel sorrow or remorse for something. The police officer experiences regret for his act when pulling the couple over, I believe he shows it when pulling her from the crash fire.
