Ventrogluteal - how to locate
Definition
1. Place client in side-lying or supine position
2. Put hand on anterior hip
3. Identify the greater trochanter and place palm at this site
4. Keep palm on greater trochanter and point index finger toward client's anterior superior iliac spine and fan out other three fingers
5. Form a "V" area with the index finger separated from the other 3 fingers
6. Inject at 90 degree angle within the "V" area.
7. Always ASPIRATE with an IM injection

Vastus Lateralis - how to locate
Definition
1. Client in supine position with thigh exposed
2. Identify the greater trochanter and lateral femoral condyle
3. Using middle third and anterior lateral aspect of thigh, select site
4. Inject directly into muscle at 90 degree angle.

Definition
1. Expose client's upper arm
2. Deltoid site is 2 fingerbreadths below acromion process
3. Place left hand on acromion process and right index finger two fingerbreadths below
4. Inject limited medication volume (0.5-1 mL) in deltoid site at 90 degree angle
