Definition

Networks - networks are groups of computers connected together and can go from 2 computers to unlimited sizes of groups. The reason we connect computers to networks is to share file or resource information.  In addition the most common network is called the internet.

Behind the internet- The internet was first created for military purposes to send information then it began being used by scientists for research. But now the internet is used by everyone.

Definition

LAN and WAN- LAN stands for local area network and is used when computers that are close together share the same network. However if LAN is connected to the internet it becomes a sub network even if it has sub networks itself. WAN stands for wide area network and is used when computers are still connected to each other but over a wider range or distance such as over seas.

Definition

Hub, port and router- The hub is a electrical connection through cables and the port is where these cables are plugged into. The router is a system that knows all the subnet addresses and finds the best route for each router.

Definition

Encryption to Decryption- Encryption is when words or codes are scrambled and decryption is when these become unscrambled. These can be used for security purposes.

Input and Output- Input is when information is taken from the real world and stores them onto the computer where as output turns computerized technology and turns them into reality.                      Storage and processing – Process means to process the information and data as to where it should go where as storage can be stored in secondary or primary information.

URL- The URL stands for uniform resource locator and it comes in different parts. The first part is the Hypertext transfer protocol which is at the beginning and should look like http. The second part is www. This stands for World Wide Web. After that comes the domain name or name of the website, then the top level domain which should look like .com, .org, etc. In addition sometimes there are a few extra bits such as the file name or type of file this usually comes after .com or .org.
