Term

Normal Takeoff into a Climb

Definition

1.Taxi into takeoff position

2. Apply full power

3. Check engine instruments adn PRM

4. Maintain directional control with rudders

5. "Engine instruments green, airspeed alive"

6. Rotate at 55 KIAS

7. Pitch for Vy and climb at Vy

8. At 500' AGL, lower pitch to 75 KIAS and either depart patern or turn onto crosswind and remain in pattern. (climb checklist)

Term
Crosswind Takeoff into Climb
Definition

1. Taxi into  takeoff position and note wind direction and speed.

2. Apply full ailerons into the wind and elevator neutral.

3. Apply full power.

4. Check engine instruments and RPM.

5. Maintain directional control with rudders.

6. "Engine instruments green and airspeed is alive."

7. As airspeed increases, slowly reduce ailerons to keep wings level during ground roll.

8. Rotate at 55 KIAS.

9. Pitch for Vy and climb at Vy.

10. At 500' AGL, lower pitch and maintain 75 KIAS, and either depart pattern (complete climb checklist at 1000' AGL) or remain in traffic pattern.

Term

Slow Flight

Dirty Configuration (landing)

Definition

1. Preform clearing turns and complete pre-manuever checklist.

2. Reduce power to 1700 RPMs.

3. Pitch up to maintain altitude.

4. Below Vfe (89 KIAS) incrementally set 34 degrees of flaps.

5. At 5 KIAS above Vso (55 KIAS), increase power to 2100 RPM.

6. Adjust pitch attitude to attain minimum cotrollable airspeed (MCA).

7. Apply back trim to relieve control pressure.

RECOVERY:

8. Apply full power and pitch down to maintain altitude.

9. Retract flaps at 61 and 70 KIAS.

10. Allow airspeed to build to 90 KIAS, then reduce power to 2300 RPM and trim to relieve controll pressure.

Term

Slow Flight

Clean Configuration (takeoff)

Definition

1. Preform clearing turns and complete pre-manuever checklists.

2. Reduce power to 1700 RPM and pitch up to maintain attitude.

3. At 5 KIAS above Vs1 (57 KIAS), increase power to 1900 RPM.

4. Adjust pitch attitude to attain minimum controllable airspeed (MCA).

        * pitch for airspeed * power for altitude

5. Apply back trim to relieve control pressure.

RECOVERY:

6. Apply full power and pitch down to maintain altitude.

7. Allow airspeed to increase to 90 KIAS and then reduce power to 2300 RPM.

8. Apply forward trim to relieve control pressure.

Term

Power Off Stall

(touch and go)

Definition

1. Preform clearing turns and complete pre-manuever checklists.

2. Reduce power to 1700 RPM and pitch up to maintain altitude.

3. At Vx (61 KIAS) apply full power and pitch up to induce stall (heels on the horizon and apply back trim to relieve control pressure.

4. Maintain coordinated flight with rudders (right).

RECOVERY

5. Pitch down and verify full power.

6. Level the wings with rudders (ailerons neutral).

7. Pitch up to Vy and continue to climb to recovery altitude.

8. As cruise airspeed and recovery altitude is obtained, set cruise power and trim forward to relieve control pressure.

Term
Steep Turns
Definition

1. Preform clearing turns and complete pre-manuever checklists.

2. Pick a visual landmark to roll out on.

3. Set pitch and power to maintain level flight at 90 KIAS (2300 RPM).

4. Roll into a 45 degree bank turn to the left:

*Rolling through 30 degrees and apply power to maintain airspeed.

*Trim may be used to relieve back pressure.

5. Use your landmark to lead your rollout (1/2 the bank angle).

6. Reduce pitch and power to maintain level flight @ 90 KIAS (2300 RPM).

7. Repeat steps 5-7 for a turn to the right.

8. Complete post-manuever checklists.

Term
Emergency Approach and Landing
Definition

1. Pitch for Vglide (70 KIAS).

2. Select suitable landing field and immediately turn towards the field.

3. Attempt to restart: Primer in and locked, mixture rich, switch tanks, carb heat on, fuel pump on, master on, cycle mags.

4. Communicate: declare an emergency: ATC and Squawk 7700.

5. Secure aircraft when committed to land: miture off, fuel selector off, mags off, master off, seatbelts secure, unlatch door.

Term
Emergency Decent
Definition

1. Preform clearing turns and complete pre-manuever checklists.

2. Power to idle.

3. Pitch to maintain level flight until airspeed decreases to Vfe (89 KIAS)

4. Apply full flaps.

5. Pitch down to maintain Vfe (89 KIAS).

6. Roll into a 30-40 degree bank turn for at least 90 degrees of heading change in the area blow and maintain a positive load factor.

7. Stabilize the descent at Vfe.

RECOVERY:

    * Roll wings level.

    * Pitch up to level flight.

    * Set cruise power and trim to relieve control pressure.

Term
Lost Procedures
Definition

1. Use topographical fatures to determine your positions.

2. Reset heading indicator to magnetic compass.

3. Use navaids to determine your position:

    * Tune and ID VOR.

    * Center the CDI with a From indication

    * Use a second VOR to determine positions

4. If position is determine, return to original course or proceed with diversion.

5. If position is not determined, complete 5 C's
