Term
Describe the steps of a Granulocyte
Definition

Myelocyte

â

Metamyelocyte

â

Band Cell

â

Segmented (Mature) Granulocyte

All of these steps occur for Neutrophils, Basophils, and Eosinophils

Term
Describe the steps of  development of the Erythrocyte
Definition

Basophilic Erythroblast

â

Polychromatophilic Erythroblast

â

Normoblast

(Orthochromatophilic Erythroblast)

â

Reticulocyte

(Polychromatophilic Erythrocyte)

â

Erythrocyte

Term
What is the primary function of erythrocytes.
Definition
Functioning only within the blood stream, they supply O2 and exchange CO2 with tissues of the body.
Term
What is the primary function of neutrophils?
Definition
After migrating to the site of inflamation or infection, the neutrophil recognizes the antigen and thru endocytosis the antigen is degraded.  During this process the antigen and the neutrophil are often killed resulting in pus.
Term
What is the primary function of eosinophils?
Definition
Eosinophils are the primary responders to allergic reactions, parasitic infections, and are found in high numbers in areas where chronic inflammation tends to occur (ex. lamina propria of intenstinal tract)
Term
What is the primary function of the basophil?
Definition
After binding antibody secreted by a plasma cell, the basophil will release vasoactive agents.
Term
What is the cell found in connective tissue which has a similar function to the basophil?
Definition
Mast Cell
Term
What is the basic functional difference between a B and T Cell
Definition

B Cells are involved in the production of circulating antibodies.

T Cells are involved in cell-mediated immunity.

Term
After a monocyte migrates to connective tissue, what does it become?
Definition
Macrophage.
