1) Concrete experience(Do)

2) Observation & reflection(Observe)

3) Forming abstract concepts(Think)

4) Testing new situations(Plan)

Originated by: David A. Kolb

Term
Information Processing Theory
Definition

A general theory of human cognition.

This theory is based on the idea that humans process information they recieve, instead of just reacting to stimuli.

Mind like computer.

Thinking --> Analysis of Stimuli--> Situational Modifications--> Obstacle Evaluation

By: George A. Miller

Definition

Theory that suggests traditional ways of assessing intelligence may be biased to certain types of indiviudals.

Introduces a broader range of the concept of intelligence.

Standarized testing may only test some levels of intelligence. There are many kinds.

By: Dr. Howard Gardner

Term
Script Theory
Definition

This theory suggest that human behavior falls into scripts(patterns) by providing a program for action.

Basic unit is a "scene", which are a sequence of events linked by the affects triggered during experiences of events.

Explains language processing & higher thinking skills.

Ex. Restaurant Script.

By: Roger Schank

Term
Situated Learning
Definition

A general theory of knowledge acquistion.

Learning is unintentional and situated within real activities, context & culture.

By Jean Lave & Etienne Wenger

Term
Social Learning
Definition

States that people learn within a social context.

Children especially learn from the enviornment, and modeling.

-Perhaps the most influential theory of learning & development.

New information & behaviors are learned by watching people(modeling).

By: Fritz Heider but Bernard Weiner developed theoretical framework

-Learning is a constructive process.

By: Jerome Bruner

Term
Phenomengraphy
Definition

A research approach aimed at the study of variation of human experiences of phenomena in the world.

Seeks to understand learning by examining the variation in learners qualitative experiences of learning.

By: Ference Marton but coined term from earlier swedish research studies.
