Definition
Mucuous membrane should be bright, moist, and have a clear pink color. They should not be pale, sticky, or dry.

Explain how you perform a capillary refill time test, and at what refill time should you continue your examination to look for a health issue with your horse.

Press a thumb against the upper gum for a couple of seconds and upon 

release of the thumb pressure, the area should appear white but immediately return to its normal 

color within 2 seconds. If it takes longer than 3 seconds continue examination to see if anything 

else could be wrong.

Explain how to perform a skin pliability test, and what a negative result could mean.
Definition

Pinch skin on side of neck between thumb 

and forefinger and hold for a couple of seconds. Skin should feel pliable, not leathery and not 

sign of fold should be apparent 3 seconds after release of the pinch. If it is apparent this is a sign 

of dehydration.

*The 0-4 canine teeth, also known as tushes, are frequently removed in domesticated horses.

*Wolf teeth may also grow in front of the upper molars, but again for removed in they become a problem.
