Bhakti Yoga
Definition
Love or Devotion: a softening of the soul.  One sees God as a tangable thing (human), because it's easier to relate to.  Practicing by Japam, repeating God's name over and over

Jnana Yoga
Definition
For the reflective personality. The "thinker's" yoga.  Seeks to form it's self with God.  Three steps - learning, thinking, and shifting one's identification (go from first person to third)

Definition
The persuit of God through work (duty). Renunciation is not necessary.  Can be approached philosophically by jnana or through love with bhakti. The point is to transcend the smallness of the finite self

Definition
The road to integrigation.  Uses a scientific approach to God through psychological experiment.  One goes into the deepest part of the mind.  Can be dangerous in that the consciousness could disintergrate into neurosis or psychosis

Definition

1. five abstentions: injury, lying, stealing, greed, sensuality

2.five observances: cleaniless, contentment, self-control, studiousness, divine contemplation

3. asanas: postures that bring one closer to God

4.Breathing control and mastery

5.Blocking sensual input                     

6.Concentration or quieting the mind

7.Loss of separation: No longer in time, eternity is within us

8.Samadhi: total absorption, becoming one with God

Four Stages of Life
Definition

1. Student (8-12) last about 12 years.  Goal is to learn as much as possible from the teacher.  In these years, habits are cultivated and characted acquired.

2.Householder: energy is turned outward into three - family, where pleasure is experienced (meets the first want) - Vocation, where the joys of success are experienced (meets 2nd want - Community, where one fulfills their obligations of duty (meets the 3rd want)

3. Retirement:  first grandchild... may withdraw from obligations, one may choose then to become a forest dweller which meets the final want of man

4. Forest Dweller - where one no longer loves nor hates anthing, and the aim is to remain a complete non-entity.
