Term
First Degree AV Block
Definition
Rate- Depends on the underlying rhythm.
Regularity- Depends on the underlying rhythm
P Waves- Upright, uniform, 1 for ever QRS
PRI- >0.20
QRS- <0.12
Term
Second Degree AV Block
Mobitz Type 1, (Wenckebach)
Definition
Rate- Slower ventricular rate, normal atrial rate
Regularity- R-R is irregular in a pattern of grouped beats.
P Waves- Upright, uniform, some are ot followed by a QRS
PRI- Get progressively longer until one P Wave is not followed by a QRS
QRS- <0.12
Term
Second Degree AV Block
Mibitz Type 2
Definition
Rate- Atrial rate is usually normal, the ventricular rate is bradycardic.
Regularity- R-R can be regular or irregular, the P-P will be constant.
P Waves- Upright, uniform, more P Waves than QRS's
PRI- >0.20
QRS- <0.12
Term
Third Degree AV Block
Complete Block
Definition
Rate- Usually normal atrial rate. Ventricular rate will be 40-60 if junctional, 20- 40 if ventricular.
Regularity- Regular
P Waves- Upright, uniform, more P Waves than QRS's
QRS- <0.12 if juntional, >0.12 if ventricular.
Term
Idioventricular Rhythm
Definition
Rate- 20-40 bpm, can drop below 20
Regularity- Usually regular
P Waves- No P Waves
PRI- No PRI
QRS- Wide and bizarre, measuring at least 0.12
Term
Premature Ventricular Complex/Contraction
Definition
Rate- Depends on underlying rhythm. PVC's are not usually counted because they do not produce a pulse.
Regularity- Depends on underlying rhythm, can be regular or irregular. the number of ectopics can interrupt the regularity.
P Waves- No P Waves
PRI- No PRI
QRS- Wide, bizare, measuring 0.12 or greater.
Term
Ventricular Tachycardia
Definition
Rate- Atrial rate can not be determined, Ventricular rate is usually 150- 250 bpm.
Regularity- Usually regular
P Waves- No P Waves
PRI- No PRI
QRS- Wide, bizarre, and >0.12. T Wave is usually opposite from R wave, and is hard to differentiate QRS and T.
Term
Ventricular Fibrillation
Definition
Rate- Cannot be determined
Regularity- No waves or complexes
P Waves- No disernible P Waves
PRI- No PRI
QRS- No discernible QRS complex.
TOTALLY CHAOTIC!
Term
Asytole
Definition
No electrical activity, straight line.
Term
Monomorphic V-Tach
Definition
Regular rate and rhythm and fixed shape or morphology. Looks the same on the EKG. Can change into Polymorphic V-Tach.
Term
Polymorphic V-Tach
Definition
Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia has is irregular in rate and rhythm and has varying shapes or morphologies on the EKG.
Term
Torsade de Pointes
Definition
Torsade de pointes are a particular kind of polymorphic VT. It is characterized by onset with an early complex that follows a long pause.
