Physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. Trends of this are declining for males and females but rates are still much higher for females

Intimate Terrorism (coercive control) -violence characterized by power and control, more likely men as perpetrators

Situational Couple Violence- most common type, no power and control by either partner, but conflicts escalate to violence, men and women are perpetrators

Violent resistance- A victim's violent response of self-defense to a partner's abuse

Mutual Violent Control- very rare, both partners are abusive and fighting for control, "mutual intimate terrorism"
