Term
What does the SCNS Bypass switch do?
Definition
Applies power to the IDCU, BICU, DVS, INU and GPS overriding the scns control panel switch.  If the bypass switch has been updated you won't just get ATT mode, you will get an alignment and NAV mode.
Term
What are the four flight modes of SCNS?
Definition
Flight Plan, Immediate, Rendezvous, and SAR
Term
What does the IDCU use for its navigation solution (hint: 4 sources)
Definition
BICU, INU, GPS and DVS
Term
What does the BICU do?
Definition
It is the primary interface with airplane sensors and converts signal inputs to digital data.
Term
During sensitive steering ops, what is crosstrack (XTK)measured in?
Definition
Yards
Term
Where is the BICU located?
Definition
Aft Center underdeck rack
Term
Where does the BICU process information from? (you don't need to know this much seriously my gosh)
Definition
inputs from the C-12 compasses, Number 2 vertical Gyro, free air temp bulb, IMS IFF altimeter encoder, and the differential pressure transducer.
Term
What does the INS battery power?
Definition

INU and Nav's IDCU.

Turn SCNS OFF when not in use so you don't drain the INS battery.

Term
If you get a SCNS failure what should you do?
Definition
Tell the Pilots to select a non-scns mode.  It is either a failure of all navigation solutions (you are screwed) or it is the interface to the pilot and copilots flight instruments.
Term
If you don't turn the INU DIRECTLY to ON from the off position what can happen? (you go to ATT accidentally)
Definition
the INU will default to orientation parameters causing pitch and roll to be reversed.
Term

What does a steady NAV ready light mean?

Flashing Nav ready light?

What stops the flashing?

Definition

Steady means 1.5 mins of alignment are complete.

Flashing means medium accuracy alignement is complete.

Going in to NAV mode.

Term
What three velocities does the DVS measure?
Definition
Heading Drift and Vertical
Term
In ATT mode what are you getting?
Definition
Only Pitch and Roll information.
Term
Where is the GPS antenna located?
Definition
Top Center of the fueselage
Term
What powers up the GPS?
Definition
Turning SCNS on.
Term
What does the DIST TOO LRG message mean?
Definition
last known position and entered position differ by 5nm or greater.
Term
What do you do if you need to restart an alignment and you have already done one?
Definition
Turn the INU switch off for at least 10 seconds.
Term
How long does the initial alignment take?
Definition
8 mins.
Term
What is the max time between alignments?
Definition
10 Mins
Term
How long does the enhanced alignment take?
Definition
4 mins
Term
hat is the ideal hdg change for an enhanced?
Definition
90 degrees ideal, at least 70 degrees for it to work.
Term
How do you know your DTM took?
Definition
LAST MSN ID and DTM MSN ID are the same
Term
If almanac data is not available how long could the GPS initialization take?
Definition
Up to 2 hrs.
Term

What should your bank angle be set to for High Level?

Why?

Definition

20 degrees.

Autopilot's max bank angle is 25 degrees but your waypoint transitions are based on 30 degrees causing you to overshoot.

Term
What can you add in the Flt parameters page to maximize SCNS accuracy?
Definition
Compass Correction
Term
What is deleted when you use the flight plan reversal function?
Definition
dz/lz info, toas and predicted winds and TAS
Term
What does FOM 1 thru 5 represent in Meters?
Definition
Less Than - 25, 50, 75, 100 and 200
Term
What radar mode provides the best azimuth resolution?
Definition
DBS
Term

What button can you use to mark a radar point with the cursor?  What does it show up as under your mark points?

How many can you store?

Definition

Right radar cursor control button.

With an R identifier.

One at a time, you erase your old mark everytime you do it.

Term
What SHOULD you do that you never do when you are in parking prior to shut down?
Definition
Update the system with parking spot coordinates.
Term
What are the four SNCS navigation solutions?
Definition
SCNS, INS, GPS and DVS
Term
There are 6 Sub modes.  What is primary?
Definition
GI...after 4 mins of invalid GPS data, it goes to D-I
Term
When is GPS data removed with regards to the poles?
Definition
Within 10 nm of either pole.
Term
What mode is active when the INU is invalid?
Definition
GPS-only
Term
When is DOP submode active?
Definition
When GPS AND INU data is invalid
Term
When is INS or inertial-only submode used?
Definition
When GPS and DVS data is invalid
Term
If you are in TAS or DOP mode what can you do to make it the most accurate?
Definition
enter a compass deviation on the FLT PAR 2-3 page.
Term
How many sattelites does the GPS reciever track at once?
Definition
Up to 5.
Term
When looking at the GPS Status 3-3 page.  Do you want the J/S (jamming to Signal) to be higher or lower?
Definition
You want it to be LOWER.  Lower jamming and higher signal = good
Term
