Cards

Term
What is the highest resolution ground mapping mode?
Definition
DBS
Term
What are the three BIT functions?
Definition
Startup, Continuous and operator-initiated
Term

How many modes does the radar have?

What are they?

Definition

7

MAP, PREC, WX, WS, ABCN/GBCN, SP and BIT

Term

What are the three modes of MAP (ground mapping)

What do the pilot's ALWAYS get?

Definition

MGM, DBS & RBGM

MGM

Term

When you are in MGM and select DBS, what is the range limitation?

If you are outside this range limitation what happens?

Are scan rates slower or faster in MGM vs. DBS?

Definition

Range limitation for DBS is 40 miles or less.

If you are outside this range MGM will be selected

DBS scan speeds are considerably slower than MGM

Term
What is MSDBS?
Definition
A ground mapping mode that incorporates both MGM and DBS processing and operates out to 40 nm.
Term
What is RBGM?
Definition

The map mode provided during degraded radar operations when incomplete stabilization data is being recieved in the radar from the INU (stab lost condition)

In this mode, radar ranges are in slant ranges rather than ground ranges and format is not corrected for airplane roll.

Term
What are the two levels of position updates available?
Definition
Precision and normal
Term

How do you know if your position update is in precision mode after you have selected PREC?

What does precision mode provide/measure in addition to MGM or MSDBS?

Does PREC work in MSDBS mode?

Definition

The radar will show the cursor mode field in reverse video.

PREC mode will measure the height of the ground as well as INU velocity errors.

It can, but in MSDBS it is not normally available.

Term

THE MQF says that turbulence information is only good up to the 80nm range.  Is this completely accurate?

What does turbulence look like on the radar screen?

Definition

Yes and No, the 80 mile ring is the highest ring that will show turbulence data, however, turbulenbce will only be shown up to 50nm with only weather being shown out to 80.

Flashing white fill

Term
what are the colors for light, moderate, heavy and excessive rain rates?
Definition
green=light, yellow=moderate, red=heavy, magenta=excessive
Term
What are the three ranges/levels of wind shear and how are they depicted?
Definition

Level 1 - >3nm - "Windshear Warning" message on screen

Level 2 - "windshear caution" - 1.5 to 3 nm

Level 3 - "Windshear Warning" - 1.5 or less

Term

How far does the beacon mode work out to?

How do you select ground beacon and air beacon?

Definition

40nm

press BCN once and you are in ground mode, press it twice and you are in air mode

Term

How far does Skin Paint SP mode go to?

What are the clutter notch selections (speeds)?

What is the size of the square displyed in relation to?

Definition

20 nm

55, 70 & 110

The size of the square is related to the RCS radar cross section

Term
If you get a flashing OVTEMP message, do you need to shut the radar down?
Definition
No, to prevent damage to the system, the radar will automatically shut down if the temperature conntinues to increase.
Term
Does the pilot's or navigators radar power switch initiate the startup BIT?
Definition
Either one can initiate the startup BIT.
Term
How far out does WX mode work to?
Definition
320 nm
Term
What does the iso-echo (ISO) button do?
Definition

It steps sequentially through light, moderate and heavy rain intensity thresholds.

IQ-22

Term

When can PREC mode be used?

How many scans do we have in PREC?

Definition

Either in an offset or expnaded scope, with the cursor in CMPR or GRND.

Both scans.

Term

What does +1150R mean on the scope?

What does +6800S mean on the scope?

Definition
The R indicates that the altitude is coming from the radar altimeter.  The S indicates that it is getting the altitude from SCNS.  below 5000 the radar uses the rad alt, above it uses scns.
Term

What does (STAB LOST) mean?

What does the radar default to?

Are there any other modes available?

Definition

Indicates that the radar is not recieving valid altitude, velocity and position data from the navigation system.

RBGM

WX & BCN

note: flight plan overlay will not be available and HDG up will be the only orientation

Term
What does the OUT OF CAL message indicate?
Definition
Indicates that the WX or WS mode has been altered from its calibrated or default position
Term
When do you get a LOCK OUT message?
Definition
When the operator does not have radar control or when the operator attempts to select a mode that is unavailable.
