Cards

Term

Engine Failure Above 450 AGL

Definition
  1. Lower collective
  2. Right pedal for trim
  3. Cyclic aft for 52 knots autorotation
  4. Pitch, trim, airspeed, rotor RPM (repeat)
  5. Raise collective to limit rotor rpm if needed

Power Recovery

  • Flare at 50 feet
  • When sinking raise collective level with forward cyclic to level, finish in hover

Full Touchdown

  • Flare at 25 feet until slow
  • level aircraft, cushion by raising collective

Term

Engine Failure In Hover
(below 7 feet)

Definition
  1. Right pedal
  2. Wait till start to sink
  3. Cushion by raising collective
  4. Lower collective once on ground
Term

Ditching Power Off

Definition
  1. Perform autorotation to water contact
  2. Lower collective, move cyclic to side (water contact will stop rotor)
  3. Get out! Unbuckle, open door, exit, and swim away
Term

Ditching Power On

Definition
  1. Descend to hover over water
  2. Battery and alternator OFF
  3. Open doors
  4. Normal landing, close throttle
  5. Lower collective, move cyclic to side (water contact will stop rotor)
  6. Get out and swim away!
Term

Transmission Caution/Warning Lights
MR XMSN TEMP/PRESS (red)
M/R XMSN CHIPS (amber)
T/R XMSN CHIPS (amber)

Definition
  1. Land as soon as possible
  2. Idle engine and declutch ASAP
Term

Fuel Low Caution Indicator

Definition

Land Immediately!

Term

Clutch Warning Light
(RELEASE)

Definition
  1. Land as soon as possible
  2. Idle engine and declutch ASAP
Term

Tail Rotor Failure
(loss of tail rotor thrust)

Definition
  1. Reduce power by lowering collective
  2. Adjust airspeed to 50 - 60 knots
  3. Left cyclic and collective pitch to limit sideslip
  4. Stay as high as possible, select a landing site
  5. If outside H-V, close throttle and perform autorotation, if hovering at 7 feet or lower, do Engine Out at Hover (hovering auto). In between or inside H-V, pray.
Term

Tail Rotor Control Failure
(fixed pitch setting)

Definition
  1. Adjust power for 50 - 60 knots
  2. Fly to suitable area
  3. Shallow approach & run-on landing at 30 knots max (but above ETL)

Directional control using small adjustments to throttle and/or collective

Term

Engine/Fuselage/Electrical Fire - Ground

Definition
  1. Mixture IDLE CUTOFF
  2. Fuel shutoff valve CLOSED
  3. Battery switch OFF
  4. Alternator switch OFF
  5. Exit aircraft with fire extinguisher
BEWARE OF ROTOR BLADES!
Term

Non-Electrical Fire In-Flight
(low/cruise altitude)

Decision: Power-On Landing

Definition
  1. Initiate power-on landing to suitable area
  2. If time permits:
    • Battery switch OFF
    • Alternator switch OFF
  3. Upon landing
    • Close throttle
    • Mixture IDLE CUTOFF
    • Fuel shutoff valve CLOSED
  4. Exit aircraft with fire extinguisher
Term

Air Restart

Definition
  • Establish autorotation
  • Pick landing spot and head for it
  • Mixture to IDLE CUTOFF
  • Above 2000 and altitude permits:
    • Throttle open 1/2"
    • Engage starter
    • Mixture FULL RICH when engine fires
Term

Electrical Fire In-Flight

Definition
  1. Battery switch OFF
  2. Alternator switch OFF
  3. Initiate power-on landing to suitable area
  4. Upon landing
    • Close throttle
    • Mixture IDLE CUTOFF
    • Fuel shutoff valve CLOSED
  5. Exit aircraft with fire extinguisher
