Involves the breakdown of larger molecules into smaller components. One of the results of this seperation is the release of energy. Ex. break down of nutrients or molecules into smaller food particles.

        Carbohydrates (CHO):

Definition
• Primary energy source-short term energy and quick fuel.
• Stored in liver and some skeletal muscle tissue as glycogen
• Insulin
• Hormone needed to activate glucose into the cells for energy use
Fat is broken down into ketones - which decreases PH and turns into lactic acid.
