Definition

Includes: Close air support (CAS) and Deep air support (DAS)

(AAW)

Definition

Action required to destroy/reduce to acceptable level the enemy air/missle threat (includes measures like interceptors, bombers, S-A/A-A missles, EA, AA guns, so they are able to destroy air/missle threat before/after launch.

 

Measures taken to minimize enemy actions: cover, concealment, dispersion, deception, mobility.

 

Primary Purpose: gain & maintain some degree of air superiority

Use of aircraft to provide tactical mobility/logistical support for MAGTF, move high-priority cargo/personnel in AO, in-flight refueling, evacuation of personnel/cargo.

Definition

Allows rapid build-up of combat power at a specific time & location.

Assault Support:

Air Defense

Definition

All defensive measures designed to destroy attacking aircraft/missles in atmosphere ro nullify/reduce effectiveness of such an attack.

2 Types: Active, Passive

 

Active: Direct defensive action used to destroy atttacking aircraft/missles in atmosphere. Uses aircraft, air defense weapons, suppporting weapons, EW.

Passive: measures other than Active. Cover, concealment, camouflage, deception, dispersion, EP, protective construction. Command responsibility of every unit commander.
