Term
digestion of protein
Definition

not absorption/ 1. hydrochloric acid in the stomach- denaturing the protien

amino acid is all woven together live a rope the amino acids soften strands begins to break it down

not absorption/2. pepsin is an enzyme seperating amino acid strands into individual strands creating stomach digestion

ready for absorption/ 3. Proteases (pancreas) last step in breaking down amino acids making protein ready for absorption. can be some problems with digestion of protein. you can be allergic to protein in milk or lactose in tolerant not the same thing. people can be allergic to soy, chicken, eggs and shrimp. Children are becoming more allergic to peanuts it can be aromatic , rash it could be deadly- tongues swell up .

Phenylketonuria

baby. genetic disorder characterized by a mutation in the gene for the hepatic enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), rendering it nonfunctional. Causes problems with brain development, leading to progressivemental retardation, brain damage, and seizures.

5. are you on any perscruption medicne you should be ware of before taking ths

6. cost benefit is worth it.

Term

Definition

Mechanical- body movement

Chemical- metabolic reactions in our body

Electrical- nerve energy

Thermal- body temperature

Term
BMR
Definition

Basal Metabolic Rate

metabolism makes every person process food differently

1-10 different varieties.

Term
1-10 things that affect metabolism
Definition

1. body size, height. the taller a person is the higher your metabolism because you are burning more energy.

gastric bipass surgery
Definition

an unreverable process where the stomach is cut to the size of an egg and reattached to 10 ft of small intestine instead of 22ft. 90 % of absorption happens in the small intestine with a smaller space to absorb.

It keeps the food in the higher part of the stomach so a person feels more full.

Their is obviously restrictive/ malabsorptive and the person must take vitmans and minerals more then they need because there only going to absorb some. This person can not eat and drink at the same time and must sip little things of water through out the day. Stop drinking completely when eating.

Term
Elastic bipass surgery
Definition
similar idea to bipass surgery only its reversable. instead of cutting the stomach down their is a tube that is place around the stomach restricting food to go into the lower part of the stomach. The egg shape is their but the food still passes through the system just slower.
Term

Half of the people with anorexia recover completely. Higher sucide risk.
