Driver/Operator
Definition
Often called an engineer or technician. Responsible for getting the fire apparatus to the scene safely, setting up and running the pump or operating the aerial ladder once it arrives on the scene.

Usually a lieutenant or captain who is in charge of an apparatus. This person leads the company both on scene and at the station. responsible for initial firefighting strategy, personnel safety, and the overall activities of the fire fighters on their apparatus. Once command is established, the company officer focuses on tactics.

Definition
Watches the overall operation for unsafe practices. They have the authority to halt any firefighting activity, allowing the activity to resume only when it can be done safely and correctly. The senior ranking officer may act as safety officer until the appointed safety officer arrives or another officer is delegated these duties.
