Term
Perform visual exam on body fluid specimens.
Definition
Visual exam on body fluid specimens using clarity and color: Clarity- clear, cloudy, or bloody, color- CSF: colorless, slightly xanthrochromic, xanthrochromic, serous fluid: colorless, yellow, green, brown, milky white
Term
Perform hemocytometer cell count on body fluid specimens
Definition
Hemocytometer cell count- clean hemocytometer and cover slip, apply cover slip, and then apply a drop of fluid to each side of the grooves, let sit for a minute. Place the hemocytometer under 10X power and find the arrow, start at the top right corner of the grid. Count under 40X.
Term
Calculate red and white blood cells/µL based on variables such as squares counted (neubauer hemocytometer) and dilution factor of specimen.
Definition
Count/0.9 = cells/uL if using the entire grid, or cell/0.1 = cell/uL if using center grid only
