Death of Morat, David, 1793

incidient that occured during the french revolution. morat=leader of the reign of terror 10s of 1000s of deaths, because they were "enimies of the revolution". a sister swore revenge, brought a fake petition to morat and stabbed him to death. David thought morat was a hero and tried to portray him as a roman leader. Neo-classic, revival of ancient classical based on roman leaders. stricly realistic texture, scientific perspective.

greatest spanish romantic painter. This is his masterpiece. French ocupation of spain. 1500 innocent civilians murdered in retaliation of a frenchman being shot. The spanish were the first to kick nepolian out after this. used eye witness accounts. colors are vivid for night. unrealistic hill, town looks liek ghost town. dynamic, imaginative. emotion component=moral outrage. did several versions before final. scientific perspective.soft modeling. warm except for guns

greatest romantic painter. english slave ship caught at sea not too far from land. many slaves sick. if he delivered them dead he got no money. so he thru them into the sea to die so he could collect insurance money. drowned or eaten by sharks. painted the year slavery was up for debate. many people thought it was not good, but came to see it. dynamic, unreal colors. emotional=outrage
