EDITING

Richard Neupert "Godard Jumps Ahead"
Thesis: A perfect synthesis of these two models is Breathless, which owes a great deal to early film ractice and 1950s aesthetic and social forces but still manages to catapult film language in new unexpected directions.

New Wave films shot quickly, on location with recently discovered, often amateurish actors and minimal crews. Only used available light and a film stock not even meant for cinema. Gun and the girl. No happy endings. Doesn't make sense. Jump cuts. Temporal ellipsis is created within what could have been a continuous shot.
