What is the difference between a factitious disorder and  malingering?
Definition
A person with a factitious disorder intentionally fakes symptoms  in order to assume the sick role while a malinger has an ulterior motive such as financial gain.

What is the difference between a factitious disorder and a somatoform disorder?
Definition
They are similar in that they both involve the presence of symptoms that are not due to an actual medical condition.  The main difference between the two is that people with somatoform disorder do not intentionally fake symptoms or mislead others.

Definition
Manipulate a thermometer, produce abcesses under the skin through injections, fake seizures, lying in an intriguing way.  People with factitous disorders have few visitiors while in the hospital. They are willing to undergo invasive tests and procedures.  They will flee the hospital if they see someone that they know
