-it becomes known that the president may have committed a crime
-House of repersentatives holds hearing to see if there is enough evidence against the president for a trial
-the house votes to impeach the president will go on trial in the senate
- the senate holds the trial and then votes innocent or guilty
-if the president is found guilty s/he will have to leave office
-if the president is found innocent s/he will continue in office.

-a person is chosen by a political party to run for the presidency
- the candidate campaigns for at least a year
-each state gets a number of electors that equal the number of representatives + 2 senators
-election day is the first tuesday after the first monday in november
-need 270 electoral votes to win

-if no one reaches 270 votes, the election is decided by a vote in the house of representatives-each state gets one vote
