  • striated: skeletal/voluntary muscles that are attached to bones.
  • Nonstriated: involuntary, visceral, function automatically.
  • cardiac muscle: involuntary muscle that makes up the heart. not found in any other part of the body.

Three parts to each muscle:

 

Origin: immovable-attached to skeleton & usually part of a skeletal muscle.

insertion: part of muscle at the more movable attachment to skeleton.

belly: middle part of muscle.

 

*pressure in massage is usually directed from insertion to origin.
