Giant rosette growth has allowed it to adapt to the extremes. retain dead leaves to insulate the stem from freezing. dense pubescence helps it conserve heat by creating dead air space above the leaf to reduce convective heat loss. retaining large amounts of fluids allows it to store heat during the day to keep for night.
