b. day of the ghosts: people went around wearing masks
c. Dionysus’ marriage to the Basilinna = Dionysus and Ariadne: Dionysus enter Athens on something in the shape of a ship, Dionysus as a scarecrow figure, symbolically married to wife of city’s chief magistrate; re-enact marriage of Dionysus and Ariadne
3. Chytrol (pots): boil grain and honey, pour into ground for Hermes Psychopomp (Hermes that ushers souls of the dead), getting rid of all of the ghosts that haunted city previous day, mixture also consumed by men and women as they were still alive; unmarried girls put on a swing and would swing over a pit, representing a symbolic reenactment of hanging of Erigone (hung herself on tree over hanging well where her father was thrown)
