It is the fomat used most on the Internet and by you camera.

are one of the oldest graphic formates used on the web. Developed by Compuserve to dosplay images on the webpages, they use a differnt sort of compression than JPEG. Using only 216 colors tey deal best with flat colors. They can use certain compressions One cool thing you can do with them is make tiny little animaations by saving indivdual frames and putting them in an animations software program.
