Hugo Ball Reciting the Sound Poem "Karawane"
1916

"I shall be reading poems that are meant to dispense with conventional language... I don't want words that other people have invented... I want my own stuff, my own rhythm, and vowels and consonants too, matching the rhythm and all my own."
-Hugo Ball, From The Dada Manifesto
Term
Readymade
Definition
the term found art—more commonly found object (French: objet trouvé) or readymade—describes art created from the undisguised, but often modified, use of objects that are not normally considered art, often because they already have a non-art function. Marcel Duchamp was the originator of this in the early 20th century.
Term

Dadaism
Definition
-One of the first artistic movements to address the horrors of war--and the moral problems and questions that accompanied the warfare
- Modern Art questioned the tradition of art, while Dada questioned the concept of art itself
- Dada mocked the so-called "rational" thought and foundation of modern society
- Removed the conventional understanding of art as something "precious" and "elite", replacing it with radical (and strange, often irrational) art about ideas and actions rather than about objects
